I wrote 1654 words today. The last 600 was a slog, because I tried writing it after my child fell asleep. She kept waking up, and it was two hours of constant interruption before I got her to finally fall asleep.
Today I was writing a scene where my character Hem has to do some cloak-and-dagger stuff to find a mysterious French woman, who will tell him how to find a mysterious Russian man who will teach him to make bombs. It’s supposed to end with him having to go to London (and meet the rest of our cast. It feels a bit amateurish TBH, with parties with secret passwords, and French anarchist ladies dressed like men, and cheesy back-and-forths.
I was frustrated with it all when my husband said “I came to Paris to drink wine and make bombs…. and I’m all out of wine”. Well okay then, I’m throwing that in, it sounds fun AF. We’ll fix it in post.
I’m going to do a callback to it in the next scene, where the Russian he meets tells him “Pity there’s no good wine in London” or something.
Manuscript now stands at 59,245 words.
The key to consistent progress turns out to be Sprinting. It’s easier to do 30-45 minute sprints for writing than for coding TBH. I find it easier to maintain my focus as well.
Let’s hope I make today’s goal too - 1447 words (an app decided that for me).
